In addition to a comprehensive, evidence-based, whole person health understanding a credentialed Whole Health Education professional must possess knowledge and competencies reflective of appropriate patient information counseling along with Patient Health Advocacy and Whole Health Coaching communication and behavioral change skills.

The NIWH Whole Health case-study programs provide evidence-based health knowledge, patient health information counseling skills and wellness coaching competencies. The experience of the Whole Health case-study provides the learner the opportunity to apply these important tools with volunteer clients.

In previous years, students would arrange for a supervised internship at area hospitals, health practices, clinics and medical facilities. Today, with the advent of our on-line health programs, NIWH learners complete a self-directed case-study research project with volunteer clients to complete their program requirement. These case studies are required to be completed as a means of demonstrating the learner’s competencies in the Whole Health Education or Whole Health Nutrition Education.

The 3-in-1 Whole Health Education programs require the knowledge and skills from the 32 courses presented in the CORE courses and Case Study course tutorials to be applied by working with clients in one-to-one setting. Case-study and research requirements for completion and graduation for ALL Whole Health Education programs include the following:

  • learner has received a passing grade for all 24 core courses and a completion for all 8 Case Study Tutorial courses as well as a grade
  • above 85% on the comprehensive final proctored exam
  • learner must work with a minimum of four (4) clients as their case study requirement, including the Patient Advocacy case study
  • learner must submit comprehensive note documentation found in the Case Study Guide, including the health information research the learner provides each client
  • learner must submit a Final Project paper, a minimum of 40 double spaced pages, focused on the three Whole Health Education case studies, the health information the learner provided the clients, as well as the resultant outcomes. Learner is required to document the health information materials utilized with each client. Please read the Final Paper requirements.
  • PLEASE NOTE: after successful completion of the Whole Health Education program, a graduate may elect to utilize their NIWH credentials to sit for several national certifications and Board certifications that have approved our program as a prerequisite.
  • IN ADDITION: NIWH recommends for nurses who wish to become an AHNCC Board Certified Nurse Coach, Dr. Linda Bark, a nurse coach mentor and director of the Wisdom of the Whole Coaching School is available to assist you with your supervision hours at special discounted fees for NIWH graduates.
