The Holistic Nursing model is about more than clinical nursing skills. This nursing approach focuses the skills of the nurse on the “wholeness” of their patients, and invites the nurse to educate, advocate and coach their patients to take greater control over their own health and wellness.

NIWH has provided the prerequisites for nurses to qualify for the national holistic nurse certification and to be trained and educated in holistic health, patient education, patient advocacy and coaching skills for over 41 years.

Established in 1977, the NIWH Whole Health Educator for Nurses program is endorsed and approved by the American Holistic Nurses Association (AHNA) and the American Holistic Nurse Credentialing Corporation (AHNCC) to meet the continuing education requirements necessary to apply for Holistic Nursing certification and Nurse Coach certification. NIWH is an accredited provider of ANCC continuing education contact hours, thru VNSA, and a content provider of Whole Health continuing education courses for Sigma Theta Tau, the International Honor Society of Nursing.

A Holistic Nursing Model

In the nationally recognized holistic nursing model, certification is achieved through the AHNA national certification examination. This credentialing process establishes minimum knowledge and competency standards for holistic nursing practice, and assures the public that the certified holistic nurse has achieved the level of knowledge and competency required for the practice of holistic nursing; and recognizes nurses who have met those standards.

AHNCC has developed a board certification exam for Nurse Coaching, in addition to the national Holistic Nurse certification exam.
